Support groups?

I had noticed a while ago that there are support groups for OCD sufferers. Actual places where one can sit in a group with other sufferers and do what it is that they do.

I didn't like the idea of it when I first noticed that there was one a couple of times a week not so far from here. The idea of meeting a bunch of strangers seems frightening enough without my OCD adding a new set of fears and bringing up every past fear in front of my eyes. Maybe it is only frightening because the OCD got to the idea and planted the seeds of fear before I realized what it was doing.

Maybe the only way to get rid of the fear is to attempt to attend just one or two of these meetings and who knows maybe it would be helpful. Worst case scenario in my mind at the moment is that it is just as helpful as my last therapist -snickers-

  1. I love the new look of your blog!

It is interesting you bring this up, for I am just now considering joining an online anxiety support group.

I have only ever met 1 other person (in person) that I know for sure has OCD and it was rather comforting to tell you the truth.

I am just now getting involved in the OCD blogosphere. It is really helpful to read the blogs of fellow sufferers. It just amazes me when I read blogs written by people like me out there who talk about things like being afraid to touch doorknobs and being terrorized by scary thoughts etc. ect. etc. and on and on.

If you do decide to go to a real live support group, do write about your experience.

  2. I am a member of an OCD support group online, it has been a real life saver at times and believe me, that isn't an over exaggeration!

There is something that is truly comforting about speaking to other sufferers, no one really gets it unless they too are a sufferer. I feel bad for saying that as my husband tries so hard to understand it and he does get some of it, but it is something that I wish that he didn't have to understand.

When I have the time to browse other blogs from other sufferers I really am amazed that there are others out there like me, going through the same things and feeling just as fustrated with it all. I wish that no one had to suffer like this but I never thought that there could be so many out there.
